Which ebook formats do you convert to?
We convert to: PDF, HTML, ePub, Mobi (Kindle), and others on request.
I want eBook files for Apple/Kindle/Sony/Kobo. Can you supply those?
We supply converted eBooks that are compliant with all the major retailers’ standards
What source files to I need to send for the conversion?
The most cost effective way is to supply a formatted MSWord or RTF text file, plus
a suitable cover image.
Does the text need to be formatted?
Yes, if you want our best rates. The text needs to be formatted as you wish it to
be displayed (within the restrictions of some ebook formats), including indents,
page-breaks, italics, bold headings, etc.
What if my text isn’t formatted?
You can have us format your text then convert it. This will include an additional
charge, but since we are formatting and converting we will provide you with a very
I don’t have a text file, only a PDF. Can you convert from that?
Not directly. We need to extract the book contents from the PDF before we can work
on it. However, extracting contents from PDF requires checking and reformatting of
the resulting document due to anomalies. We would need to apply a formatting charge
in addition to an eBook conversion fee. Formatting starts at $1.00 per 1000 words.
Can you convert to eBooks from a print book?
Yes we can. We will have to dismantle the print book and scan each page to text,
then reassemble the book in text document form. Obviously this tales a lot longer.

Does my cover image need to be high-resolution?
Your cover image needs to be minimum 72dpi, and we recommend it is 150/160dpi. The
image must be a minimum of 453x680 and dimension ratio of 2:3, or else we may need
to crop the image to use it in some formats. We will resize the image where needed
(without loss of resolution) for each format.
What about images in the HTML version?
You can have your HTML format with or without images. All you have to do is indicate
which you prefer. Please note, if you have internal images (like a company logo),
you need to tell us if you wish them included in the HTML version. In all cases,
images are held in a separate folder assigned to the html file. HTML itself does
not hold images, but rather calls them up from an associated location (the images
Can I have the formats done without a cover image?
If you so wish, yes you can.
Will my ebooks have a TOC (Table of Contents)?
Yes they will. All conversions utilize active contents and navigation features, as
per individual devices.
I want bookmarks in the PDF version. Can you do that?
We put bookmarks in all PDF versions. We set standard bookmarks as follows: Copyright
page; Chapters; About the Author; Other books by Author/Publisher; Publisher website.
In the case of anthologies, we will bookmark all the stories. If you wish different
bookmarks, please let us know.
Do you embed any metadata?
Yes we do. Appropriate metadata is embedded in all formats where it can be done.
Some companies (like Apple and Sony) do not want metadata embedded in eBook files
I have a textbook with numerous images, tables, etc. Can you convert that to eBooks?
Yes, that is possible. However, several factors need to be considered. a) Tabled
content does not convert to eBooks. b) Large images/illustrations need to be optimised
for eBooks. c) Some customised formatting might not be possible to repeat completely
in some eBook formats. There are workarounds for all of these. Please enquire if
you have such a book jim (at) jimandzetta.com
How long before I get the converted ebook formats?
We will notify you of the current turnaround times for completion and return. It
depends on the workload we have at any given time. We will advise you when you submit
Why does my book look different in different formats?
Not all readers/devices display the content exactly the same. Users have at their
choice, different display fonts and font sizes, as well as justification (left or
full). Some software, like Stanza reader (multiple formats), is really just a basic
text reader and strips all the formatting so it can display text from a number of
different formats. In addition, if the person reading resizes the text or window
size, then text is “reflowed”. Where possible we convert exactly as you wish it displayed,
but you’re at the mercy of a reader’s limitations when it comes to displaying the
I have a rush job I need done immediately. Can you do that?

Do you typeset and prepare/design book interiors for print?
Yes we do. Rates start from $1.00 per 1000 words
My printer requires a PDF to a specific standard. Are you able to do that?
Yes we are. We use the latest Adobe Acrobat Professional to provide PDFs made to
specific standards suitable for high-quality printing.
Do I need to include a cover file?
Only if you have to/want to. Printers will normally require the text of a book separate
from the cover file, but if you are having your book typeset for ebook conversion
you may want the cover included.
I need to ensure there’s mirrored margins, larger margin on the insides of pages,
and vertical spacing. Can you handle that?
Yes we can. We will work with you to get your book looking the way you want it to.
Can I have the edited manuscript formatted for print and then converted to eBooks?
Yes you can. We can tailor a service to suit whatever you need, combining individual
services into a package just for you. Email us jim (at) jimandzetta.com and let us
know what you need.
Can I review the completed file?
We will always send you an initial draft for comment and any modifications. We encourage
clients to check files carefully before calling them final.
I spotted several editing changes needing done. Do I need to pay all over again?
Since we are not editing as part of the job, if after the typesetting/formatting
has been completed you wish to make changes to the actual content, we reserve the
right to make an additional charge to cover any additional time on the project.
